I recently decided to take a mini vacation in San Diego, CA. You see, even when iam not traveling for work.. I feel the need to go somewhere… Even if I have been there before ( many times before ). It’s a sense of escape and fresh surroundings that I crave.. it’s also the ‘hotel experience.’
I love the maid service, room service, and a phone next to my bed in which I can use to request just about anything … I love someone else making my bed everyday, and restocking my mini bar of bottled water and yummy snacks! And i even love the bathroom toiletries that are constantly replenished, ( which also make great gifts and stocking stuffers at Christmas time).
I know that all sounds a bit high maintenance but it’s just something I have grown to love in my life…Its funny, many people ask me- “don’t you hate living out of a suitcase and staying in hotels all the time?”. And iam like, “Are you kidding?? I love it!”.
So, having said that, I have decided to add specific hotel segment to my blog.. I will add a new hotel experience/ review on a normal basis. As with my other blogs, I hope you find these entries both entertaining and informative… And as usual, I encourage you to comment or request info any time you would like

Many people ask me if I actually cook on the plane for people. The answer is- Sometimes… Most of the time I re-plate and garnish already prepared food. At times I may finish the cooking process with such things as fillet/ streak on the plane,( and yes the galleys have full ovens and microwaves).
I also often prepare appetizers like fruit trays, cheese and cracker trays, or vegetable cruidtte platters.
A fresh fruit platter is a common centerpiece for parties or for a welcome snack on one of my VIP flights. Fresh fruit is easy to find and prepare and provides a splash of color to any table.
While creating a fruit tray is relatively simple, many fruit platters are not as enticing as they could be. To make a fruit platter that is beautiful and tasty, choose only very fresh and seasonal fruits. Use only firm fruits that are not going to turn color or spoil while left on the tray for a period of time. Arrange your fruits by type, and use the different colors and shapes to create an interesting pattern.
Suggested items:
1 watermelon
1 cantaloupe
2or so bunches seedless grapes
1 pint blueberries
1 container strawberries
8 kiwis
1 fresh pineapple
2 lemons
Large mixing bowl
Sharp knife
Large, circular platter with a lip to catch wondering fruit juice. ( i prefer silver platters).
Next step is Preparing the Fruit:
1.Make sure to Wash all your fruit thoroughly, and dry it off with a paper towel.
2. cut the watermelon and cantaloupe in half. Wrap half of the watermelon in plastic wrap and store in the refrigerator for another use. Remove the seeds from the cantaloupe, and cut away the rind from both melons.
3.Cut the remaining half of the watermelon and the entire cantaloupe into bite-sized pieces. Place the cut melon pieces in the mixing bowl and toss with the juice from one lemon. This will help keep the melons fresh.
4Cut the large grape bunches into pieces with four to five grapes on each piece. Save any loose grapes to use as a garnish for the tray.
5Peel the kiwis and cut into rounds with the knife. Squeeze the other lemon over the kiwi.
6Cut off the top of the pineapple. With the knife, hollow out the bottom of the pineapple by cutting along the inside of the pineapple rind, leaving a ¼-inch wall. Remove the inner fruit and keep the pineapple bowl to use for the platter. Cut the fruit into bite-size pieces.
Arranging the Platter:
1Place the pineapple rind in the center of the tray. Fill the hollowed-out pineapple with the blueberries.
2Working out from the center, use about half of the watermelon to create a circle of watermelon pieces that mound up around the pineapple centerpiece.
3Arrange the cantaloupe and pineapple pieces in alternating concentric circles around the watermelon until all the cantaloupe and pineapple are used. Form a circle around the last row of cantaloupe or pineapple with the remaining watermelon.
4Stand up the kiwi pieces at an angle between the last two melon circles. Overlap the kiwis slightly, to form a wall. If there are not enough kiwi slices to complete a circle, create three equal sections of kiwis and fill in the spaces with some of the grape bunches.
5Place the whole strawberries around the edge of the platter and tuck some around the pineapple cup in the center. Use the grapes to fill in any gaps.
6Arrange the remaining bunches of grapes so they cascade over the melon pieces. Place any loose grapes around the outer edge with the strawberries.
7Cover the platter with plastic wrap and refrigerate until you are ready to serve.
Tips :
You should Substitute any of the fruits that are in season..Apples and pears are best in the fall, and you can use more citrus fruits during the winter. Use the watermelon rind to create a bowl. Fill the watermelon with pieces of melon and decorate it with a large bunch of grapes.
Lastly, I like to garnish the platter with purple orchards.
Of course your own personal touch an creativity is really what makes your fruit tray special.
Now you may ask, how does this stay fresh for the clients on the private plane? Well first of all, everything is prepared as close to take off time as possible. It is also kept cold in the FBO or galley cold storage.
I assure you, all food served on these VIP flights is the highest quality and prepping and storage is equal if not better than the finest restaurants you may visit.
Bon appetite

For all the wonderful experiences travel has brought me, iam eternally grateful..but what I value the most from all my years on the road, is the insight, change and growth I have gained as an individual .
I began working as a flight attendant when I was 23. At this age, I was immature, naive, and lacked self confidence. After college, I was Not sure what I wanted to spend my life doing.. I had a psychology degree but no real passion or drive to pursue a job in my field of study. After some encouragement and persuasion from a friend, I accepted a job as a commercial flight attendant. I knew i loved to travel, enjoyed working with and socializing with the general public, so I figured, “what the hell”.. Not to mention being a free spirit by nature…I looked forward to the idea of gaining some real independence . So, I happily embarked on the lifestyle and career of being a flight attendant. In the beginning, It was a a drastic life change, and a little scary at times. I often felt alone and homesick “on the road”..
At one point, about 5 years into it, I quit. I have fallen in love and wanted to be home every night. I wanted to try out having a “normal” life.. However, After about a year of being on the ground.. I became Antsy.. I had dreams about flying and longed to pack a suitcase , board a plane, and discover a city or place I have never been. So, after long debate with myself, I once again returned to the friendly skies. I left the boyfriend ( whom I dearly loved) and moved across the country to Los Angeles, CA to became a corporate flight attendant. I began working on private jets with High profile clients and serving meals on fine china.. My trips where now mostly international.. Places like paris, brazil, Spain, china, and even an island in the middle of the philiipene sea.. My trips are adventurous, and challenging and educational.. To say the least. But as I mentioned above, they also have become life altering.. I have changed a person in ways that I don’t think I would have if I had stayed on the ground.. Living in the same town, and seeing the same people. Now there are many days that I wonder what it would be like to come home to a family every night and only travel on an annual vacation. But I am a big believer in the theory that everything happens for a reason. And everyone has a path of life that has been carved out for them. Not saying you can’t alter the road or take detours.. But life is a journey and everyone has a different one for a reason. i once heard the lyrics in a Lifehouse song that said-”Everyday is a gift and not a given right”..I agree and try to live my life with those words in mind. Every trip I take, every new city I explore or new person I meet.. Is a learning experience. I gain new insight and become open to new ideas, and possibilities. I have found that I never say never about anything or anyone.. But I also make changes within myself based on these experiences. I don’t wait for the world around me or people in my life to change to fit me.. I change and adapt to fit my surroundings and my community. I don’t believe that I would have become the same person if it wasn’t for the experience of travel. The education of different cultures, the thought provoking things I see and people I watch.
This year alone I have spent months in Asia, experienced Chinese year first hand, attended the Superbowl, met and flew many current political leaders, and attended celebrity events… A year that only people dream of having .. And I have had 7 of them as a corporate flight attendant..
So what is the negative ? Here it goes
I wonder how many years left I have in a profession of youth. Although the east coast is a bit different, the west coast ( where iam based), is highly influenced by Hollywood and superficial attributes…
Traveling also brings physical demands on your body. There are days that iam just exhausted. I have also been told recently by a doctor that my job influences brain function – memory, hormone levels, circulation, just to name a few.
I also know I Savatage personal relationships..and upset my dog( that is not a joke). I see my family less, my friends can’t make real plans with me, and well, I have already written about my career’s impact on my romantic relationships.
And finally, I pay rent for an apartment iam not home to enjoy and pay for a car I don’t drive…
Why am I am openly describing the good and the bad of my career? because it should be public knowledge. Maybe there is someone out there weighing the pros and cons of becoming a corporate flight attedant. maybe people that know me don’t quite understand what my job really entails. Or maybe, I just need to write it down . This is a personal blog after all.
Where am I writing this ? On a plane of course.
See you soon

Hotel highlight
On a recent trip to Macao in Asia, I had the pleasure of experiencing the Venetian Macao hotel and suites. Now typically on a work trip I reside at a Marriot, renaissance, Hilton, etc. . International trips may add a few more boutique hotels to that list, but it’s not a staple, And typically iam not in a suite room..( sometimes sweet but not suite ) ha ha… Iam probably the only one laughing at that..
Ummm ok, where was I.. Yes, The Venetian! if any of you are familiar with the one in Las Vegas, you know it’s a pretty nice establishment. The hotel is impeccably decorated, filled with amazing restaurants and all the high end shopping stores..
The Venetian in Macao is the same standard of quality but with an extra kick. First, it’s huge! So huge in fact that on checking in, you receive a complimentary map that is the size of a small book.. And since no one here really speaks English, it’s a must to have one ( and not loose it!)
It has a full casino as well as major shopping ( everything from Versace to Tiffany’s) and what seems like a million restaurants’ clubs , and bars. It’s like a mini city! My days were filled of sight seeing and people watching, and my evenings of eating and shopping! Never moments of boredom or feeling like I was a prisoner of my hotel.
Then, rooms are all suites with a marble foray, full sitting rooms, enormous bathrooms with both a rain shower and full size soaking tub and stocked with all the amenities you could possibly need or want to take home as a souvenir . The beds are royal king size and soo comfortable! A packed mini bar, complimentary selection of teas and coffee, and a full business center! My window view looks out over a secured golf course and statuesque pools.
I will also add that the customer service ( ie room service and cleaning service) was also above exceptional. I even received free water bottle service all day!
Now this, is MY kind of hotel!
Now, you know iam gonna have some criticism… Wait for it…. Here it is…while the size of this hotel is brag worthy, it is also intimidating and so hard to maneuver around..
For example, I arrived at about 8:30 local time after traveling 16 hours by plane. Iam tired and a little out of it, so i just want to go to my room, shower and go to bed. What a nice thought.. Unfortunately, it took me about 25 minutes to find my room.. Which is at the other end of the hotel, in the north tower, on one of the top floors. I knew the plan was to meet my crew at a specific pub for a night cap but the thought of trying to find it now was out of the question for me…after a few hours of trying To sleep, I decide to go to the gym. I remember someone mentioning it was on the “8 th floor near the south tower”.. I exit my room and back track ( from then night before ), to the elevator. I take the long ride down to the main casino floor and then start looking around for someone that can point the way for me.. (Since maps and I are not typically friends). Unfortunately, All the people with uniforms on that state they are employees, do not speak any English.. even after trying to mime the act of lifting weights, they still have no idea what i need. One hands me another silly map.. So I begin to wonder.. And wander.. walking in circles, traveling up and down escalators and elevators until, finally I see a sign that says GYM..ahhhh, another 20 min of my life I will never get back, but alas I found my destination and got a good pre workout in . And later, on the return to my room, another post workout- workout on the backtrack…Yes, while a big, pretty hotel can be a nice change from the mundane, it can definitely make simple tasks difficult.
However, all in all, it was a nice stay for 5 days with plenty of entertainment in the” mini city ” limits of the Venetian Macao hotel and casino.

In the past month I have traveled back and forth to Asia 4 times…Hong Kong, Taipei, Beijing, Nagoya, Macau..I may be forgetting one?! One morning I woke up around 4 am and actually had to scour my belongings and room info to remind myself what city I was in…Now it’s typical for me to wake during the night in a random Hotel room and forget where the bathroom is… But I usually remember the big picture- the actual location of my stay! I looked outside my window at the city lights below, and wondered if it was my memory that was going or my brain just blending all my destinations together…Passing through 15 time zones back and forth, 4 times in such a short period of time- Can’t be good for the mind or body..yet, every one of these trips have given me more knowledge, and mind opening/ altering experiences than I would ever find by reading a book or seeing a movie..
Aldous Huxley once said;” To travel is to discover that everyone is wrong about other countries”.
I agree. So many people I speak to, including my own family and friends, do not realize how ignorant they are when it comes to their ideas and opinions of different cultures. I know.. Nobody likes the word “ignorant”.. but the words definition fits. however, i know it’s not their fault.. You never really understand another culture unless you live within it. I have also fallen into the category of ignorance a time or two… Let me give you a couple of examples.
My first trip this month was to Hong Kong, China. I flew a large group of Chinese people to the US and then back again. On the first leg, I observed these passengers smoking up a storm, eating food I didn’t even recognize, and leaving a messy trail all over the plane. They didn’t knowledge me very much.. Besides the fact I don’t speak Chinese, I did expect them to attempt non verbal communication with me. A few did, but the majority did not.. There was a Chinese speaking flight attendant on board that had her hands full though.. When we reached our destination, I asked the other flight attendant ( the one that was part Chinese) why the passengers reacted the way they did to me. she said ” they don’t know you,and they know you can’t speak their language so they don’t expect much from you in termsmof communication But they do appreciate all your hard work”. I rolled my eyes at this last statement.. Until the lead passenger handed me a very large tip on his way out…hmmmmm ok…so maybe they don’t hate me? They were not being rude? Later on, I had a more in depth conversation with the other girl I was flying with and she shed more light on the culture and their habitual ways. And, on the next flight with them, things were a little different. They acknowledged me a little more and I even got a smile from time to time Maybe I was also the one that acted differently…
The next trip I had was to Nagoya, Japan. Wow, what a difference between the two countries. At first glance, things looked alike.. The geography of the land and layout of the cities, the people ( physically speaking), and even the sound of the language. But at a closer look ( and listen).. There were major differences.
Onboard, I expected the same reaction from the Japanese passengers as I received from the Chinese. I was definitely surprised by how open and friendly they were to me. They were extremely polite, very neat and orderly, and tried to communicate with me despite then language barrier. I have flown all different cultures in my 12 years as a flight attendant, and I have to say..this group of passengers may just be the nicest people I have ever transported. Now they are not a tipping culture ( so don’t tip in Japan), but I would trade a big tip from a unpleasant passenger ( of any culture),for no tip from people like this, any day of the week!
While I was in Japan, I was told that some people are actually embarrassed that they can’t speak English..so their timid, shy behavior around Americans may even stem from that.
I also have to add that every person I came in contact with was so gracious and friendly. Even the wait staff in restaurants were amazing.. Why can’t the majority of people in America be this nice?!
And last but not least, I need to mention the food experience. There is definitely a huge difference between the food items and the preparation, all over Asia. First, I didn’t know that Chinese do not like to “waste” any part of an animal..now, not only do I know this, I will have visions of some dishes I served, in my mind forever…like the’ ancient egg’- Which is green and smells like formaldehyde ! And if you ever hear the words ” birds nest”- run! Its actually regurgitated bird saliva! ( iam not kidding).. Having said all that.. I also had the best dim sum of my life in Hong Kong.
One stereotype I will have to agree with is; the idea of Eastern culture having some very healthy eating practices. . I was happy to see that people do actually drink Green or oolong tea all day, and eat tons of fresh raw fish and rice (instead of pasta!). They eat small meals throughout the day and fast food establishments are few and far between. Hmmm.. maybe living in Japan would do me some dietary good!
* travel tip..If ever in Nagoya, go to the fish market early in am.. You will never taste fresher sushi in your life!
As the chinese New Year is fast approaching, I am sure to find myself back in Asia soon…and with a open mind and heart

Can you afford to fly private?!
When the average person thinks about private jet travel, they probably imagine that they would have to be a millionaire to afford it. They usually envision a large corporate jet and the luxurious lifestyle that goes with it.. Movies, TV shows, and basically all media portrays a certain image. Maybe even some of my blogs have depicted only the rich and famous flying around on a Private plane. I feel the need to clear up what it actually means to ” fly private” and the demonstrate the fact that a middle class person as well as companies NOT on the fortune 500 list, can also afford to travel in this fashion.
Here is some basic info you may want to know if you are considering chartering a private plane for a special occasion or business trip..
Let’s say *Bob wants to take a trip with his buddies from LA to Vegas for a fun weekend. Maybe a special event such as a birthday, a marriage proposal, bachelor party, or even that important business trip where time is of the essence… Wouldnt it be perfect to take a private jet there? I bet you didn’t know that you could take an Executive turboprop such as a Kingair,or Pilatus for a little over $1,000 an hour?! Flying short distances ( within a few hours or under 1200 miles), a turboprop , light jet such as a Learjet, beech jet, or citation ultra would cost you approx $1,300-$2,500 an hour. These seat anywhere from 4 to 8 passengers..sometimes 9.
There is No flight attendant on board but the planes are sleek, attractive and fast. You can arrive in style with no hassle from the airlines, no waiting in lines, and little to no chance of cancelations and delays..
If you wish to bring along more friends, want a little more room, or fly a
Little further ( let’s say 3-4000 miles), a Hawkerxp, or Citation excel will cost you on average $2,500-3,000 an hour. So, Traveling cross country is definitely doable and won’t cost you your life savings. If it’s a business trip, the tax right off is well worth it, not to mention the time you save in arranging your own departure and landing times…and as we all know..” Time is money”!
In case you were wondering, all of these planes do have a bathroom of some sort. You can bring or arrange any catering you wish, and your luggage will not be ransacked by security personal.
In all honesty, Traveling private “worldwide” is really where the prices go up. Larger planes ( large cabin jets) such as a Gulfstream, Legacy or Challenger, ranges in price from $4,000- $7,000 an hour . In addition, foreign landing fees, overnight airplane parking rates, and crew fees can significantly elevate the overall prices when flying out the country. These planes also typically use a flight attendant for service and that is added cost of approx 400-500 a day. Having said all that, if you are flying with 15 people ( which is approx what these planes hold) , the option of dividing up the cost is always there.
Just maybe, Consider the experience of a lifetime; a European vacation with your significant other and your close friends/ family- Following your own flight schedule, packing all the luggage you want, and traveling in the ultimate comfort…well it might just be worth the cash in the end.
Bottom line, From a king air to a Gulfstream, flying private is flying private. And although it may cost a little extra,it can be affordable and priceless .
my top 5 reasons for utilizing this unique form of transportation is:
1. Saving time
2. Saving yourself from aggravation
3. Privacy/ security
4.Comfort
*5. Serious and outstanding customer service on and off the plane

Holiday travel.( Part 1.) Corporate style

Oh yes, the wonderful holiday season is upon us once again… Family and friends take extra time out of their busy schedules to spend time with loved ones… Even travel great distances to do so….”the average family” will plan for a long car, train, or plane ride to see relatives or just get away and take a small vacation together.. They book their travel plans weeks or months in advance to get the best fare and/ or hotel rates…and on that joyous day of travel, they pack, wait in lines, pray for no weather delays/ cancellations, and begin their journey to their hopeful destination….
The “above average family” does things a bit different… They fly private..which means, may decide a couple days in advance they want to see “Aunt Etna” on the other side of the country or get away to Hawaii for some quite family time. Someone Makes a phone call to book a private jet, or get their own ready. Someone may even pack for them.. And of course schedule their hotel stays, transportation while on vacation, and book their entertainment reservations. I think the biggest reason why private travel (for those who can afford it), has grown so much in this decade, is due to the fact that people dont want to deal with the challenging schedules of airlines and possibility of their plans being disrupted by flight cancellations and delays.. Generally speaking, people have less vacation time and ability to get away from work for these getaways. Our time spent with our family has declined due to the depressing financial state of this country and the need to work longer and more often. Flying private saves time, and in the long run can actually save money…
The children of these privileged souls come properly prepared with their iPads, iPhones, and all the rest of the newest technology based trinkets on the market. They may also have a nanny traveling with them which means iam not expected to play babysitter . ..These children, much like their parents, are also awaiting their 5 star catering once on board. and of course… I have it for them..
Now, I must say, as a corporate flight attendant, the holiday season, although busy, is greatly less stressful than it is in the commercial world of flying.. first, as i mentioned above, The children on board are well entertained, so there is not a lot of screaming and carrying on. Although they may appear to be a little spoiled, I do witness more manners when asking for things than I did while I was flying commercial. They also know exactly what they want and how they want it prepared… I find it both amusing and refreshing to serve a 5 year old that knows how he wants his chicken fingers cooked and instructs me on the specific amount of apple juice that is suppose to be filled in his cup..oh, and, ” please give me half a cookie, my mother says iam borderline gluten intolerant “..
The private jet setters also have the luxury of traveling with as much luggage as they want, including all the gifts for their family or friends. No need for standing in lines at the post office or fed-ex.. Or wrestling with bags in the airports and paying for each bag individually. For me as a flight attendant, the down side is that it does get a little crowded in the cabin, and navigating my way through and around bags while serving a 5 course meal, can get a little hairy.. It is a complete obstacle course and at times and I feel like iam in the circus ( balancing my silver platters of food and drink) through the sea of bags, people, and trinkets…
I pray to get through all my food service without dropping, spilling, or breaking anything!
Finally, I would like to mention, pets… Our little furry friends who usually have to stay at home or boarded in some kennel while the owners take their vacations, can happily come aboard a private plane with no hassle.. To many people (including myself), pets are like our children. And I know that when I travel home for the holidays, I want my pup with me. When I travel commercial I know that I have to deal with quite the preparation and ordeal to take her along. First, I need a letter from my vet clearing her as a “medically sound” animal to have in public.Second, I have to call ahead and reserve a pet space on the plane. Apparently there is this silly rule that there can only be two animals in a commercial plane cabin, at a time. Why can’t this rule apply to children??? Third, I have to pay on average $300 round trip for my 13 pound dog to sit with me or under my seat. Fourth, there is the whole procedure at the airport getting her through the security checkpoints and the rest of the airport..And finally, depriving her of water and food prior to the flight so she will not be In anguish during the 5 hour flight across country.
What is needed to fly your pet on a private jet?? nothing… Just the pet and it’s travel needs…no paperwork, no hassle…
Happy travel holidays… More to come after Christmas

Travel , Transportation,Technology..
As a corporate flight attendant, I find myself in foreign cities and countries on a normal basis. Sometimes it is destinations I have been a million times and I begin to know the layout of the land like it’s home. However, the first time I arrive some place New, it always becomes an adventure and can be both fun and frustrating at the same time…
When I arrive in a new city, the first thing I do is inquire about all the modes of public transportation available, ( ususally with my hotel concierge ). I also grab a map of the city ). since iam often running around to a multitude of catering locations, i try and make this as stress free as possible.
First, I take advantage of technology. There are now iPhone and other smart phone apps like , “hopstop”that help you navigate the nyc subway system, “google maps”,( that works just about everywhere)’ and “yelp” to help you locate the best choices and closest locations for restaurants, stores, gas and much more. And When i dont have time to seek out my own catering, I use a ” vip catering” app on my phone to locate a caterer worldwide! There are also phone apps or portable translators to help in non english speaking countries.
For transportation on my trips, I utilize the following.
In the states, I use everything: taxis, rental cars, car services, my two feet, trains, etc Cities like NYC, make it easy to get around. If you get tired of walking, a subway or cab can take you anywhere at any time. In Places like Midland Texas, a rental care is my first choice. While in Europe, I dare not drive ( due to the left side of the road thing, And my past experience of fluke accidents), so I use all public transport methods.. For example, London has the wonderful “tube”. If you have never used this because you think it is too complicated, rest assured it is even easier than the subway system in NYC. ( this coming from someone that can get lost very easily). It’s also cheap and safe. Which are two important attributes when running around aimlessly for days on end.. In Paris, I tend to use cabs or even a bike. And of course walk.. Since the city is so convienant to navigate around and so pretty ! By the way, This is the origin of my title “cobblestomes and heels”
There are some places like Hawaii or the carribean islands that rent out scooters, gulf carts, and bikes too.. These are fun and make transportation easy.
On the job, There are times when a simple catering task can become one big adventure.
For instance, I was once in a foreign, non- English speaking city, with a catering list a mile long. In short, I got lost about 4 times, lost my train ticket, could not find a cab, and my cell phone died. In addition, Somehow I ended up having lunch with a random stranger… Yes, all in one afternoon.. The ” stranger” ended up being my guardian angel for the day. Besides treating me to lunch, He helped me finish my catering, get back to my hotel safely, and well, became a pen pal and resource for future trips to this city!
When is it the most frustrating? like the example above, In places where English speaking people and signs, are few and are between ( and there is not helpful stranger). This is where your portable translator comes in handy. Places like Germany or Japan, have been most challenging for me- especially while locating stores and specific restaurant locations where i need to gather work related items from. In this instance, I use all my resources. I may even “skpe” a friend who has knowledge of my whereabouts, for added assistance.
At times when my frustration level is too high or my energy level is is too low, I splurge on a car service with an English speaking driver…
Finally, I will have to say, my favorite place to get lost is Italy. Besides the fact that i love the food and culture, I find Italian people, especially the men, to be extremely helpful and chivalrous. When asking for directions to my specific catering destinations, I have been offered full escort service to ensure my success! Also, while waiting for my food preparation, everyone seems to offer me a complementary glass of vino and sample tasting of various menu items. Oh, and I certainly don’t mind the free cannolis and other goodies I come across when wondering into the wrong locations along my catering expeditions. Now some may say being a female and a tall blond may be the reason for this helpfulness. But What ever the reason may be, I welcome the assistance …
If you would like additional tips on transportation and other travel related resources, please do not hesitate to ask me !

Corporate travel etiquette.

As we all know, there are certain rules (written and unwritten) that accompany commercial airline travel. Things such as standing in Long security lines and TSA procedures, Checking in for a
flight at least an hour prior to the scheduled departure, Boarding priority for the plane, and Adapting your plans and schedule around the airline schedule including delays and cancellations..
I call such things rules and etiquette of travel.
Flying on corporate jets is vastly different, but there are still procedures to follow and a right vs wrong way of “behaving”… Which I refer to as corporate travel etiquette.
Let’s start with the obvious ones. First, although a paying client may have anyone onboard he or she wants, all the names of passengers still need to be recorded and sent through screening prior to plane taking off. Another words, if you decide to have 5 new friends show up to accompany you on your trip at the last minute, understand there will be a slight delay to your travels until everyone is cleared from a security stand point..
Another more obvious rule, when traveling out of the country, make sure your passport and or visa are up to date… private jet customers is not excused from immigration laws. And no body wants to be detained in foreign countries…including the crew.. What you may not know is that Some foreign nationals require a visa for entry into the United States and some airlines and charter companies are able bring these passengers without a visa into the United States as they
participate in the “Visa Waiver Program” allowing the carrier to transport passengers from certain counties into the US.
One of my favorite etiquette rules to pass on to private flyers is this..Although you do control the time of departure, please do not show up 5+hours late. (without notification). For one reason, the expensive catering you ordered is probably now ruined and will have to be reordered and
re-billed. ( to you). Reason two, pilots have to file departure slots at some airports, this can be a major issue if you miss your slot window and then have to request another departure and or arrival slot. Crews also have Duty-Time restrictions which may be impacted by a delay in your departure. And finally, Some may say-it’s also a little rude..
Adding to my travel etiquette list, i would like mention that Once onboard the jet, please be conscious of the fact that you are on a multimillion dollar plane. Treat it like so, especially if you do not own it yourself… Unfortunately This is not obvious etiquette to everyone..
Recently, I was told that a huge celebrity figure, and their entourage, physically destroyed a Gulfstream 300. Needless to say, they are now banned from flying without supervision.. Meaning a flight attendant always needs to be present to keep them in check when flying with this particular charter company.
Smoking onboard, while sometimes allowed, is more often discouraged and sometimes forbidden by some aircraft owners chartering their aircraft to others. Not only is it unhealthy for passengers and crew to inhale, it also ruins the interior of these beautiful planes.. it seeps into the carpet, the walls, etc. Need I say more?
Then, there is the topic of luggage. (Yes, there is luggage etiquette as well.). While traveling on a private jet, the only real formal “rule” is the obvious – NO drugs or unauthorized weapons in your luggage! Other than that, passengers are generally allowed to bring everything and anything with them.. In large quantities . And they do! There are times when luggage gets out of hand and seating becomes limited on the aircraft . I have seen people attempt to pile luggage in my kitchen galley! So, read carefully- first, Large pieces of luggage go in the ” luggage compartment” not the main seating area.( cabin). Second, your smaller bags( computer bags, purses, gift bags, etc) can be stowed behind seats and in safe areas of the cabin so they don’t take flight when we do! And no, you can’t put them in the cockpit either. Your cabin attendant will carefully take care of all your belongings if you let her/him. So release a little control and allow them to make the cabin a safe and comfortable place for you, your guests, and your luggage.
And last but not least , Another one of my favorite etiquette rules once in flight, is the idea of actually sitting during take off and landing, without being told to do so..
The corporate flight attendants are not there to harass you or treat you like you’re flying coach on a commercial airliner, however, it’s safety 101 that should tell you it’s not a good idea to be in the lavatory or walking around during these two crucial times of flight. These planes can have mechanical problems or accidents just like any other plane.. so, act
responsible and safe on your own.. And dare I say, it might be a good idea to take off and land with a seat belt on! Eeek!
So, now you know the etiquette rules before booking your next charter jet.
I look forward to serving you
